Gachagua to Ruto: You promoted Kindiki after helping you with abductions

By , September 20, 2025

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a scathing critique of President William Ruto, questioning both his administration’s ethics and the motives behind key political appointments. Speaking during a church service in Mutituni, Machakos County, on Saturday, September 20, 2025, Gachagua said he had witnessed actions by Ruto that compromised integrity and undermined governance.

“Sasa nimeskia huyu jamaa akisema sisi hatuna akili. It’s true, ile akili anatafuta sisi hatuna. That’s true,” Gachagua said.

“Hii ya uongo. Unajua alikuwa ananiita tukienda mkutano wee Riggy G kuja, wacha tupamge maneno, vile tutaenda kuambia watu. Anapanga uongoo, tunaskiza anasema hiyo uongo bado tosha ongeza. Sasa hiyo akili mimi sina. Hii anasema sisi ni wapumbavu kwa sababu hii maneno ya kuua watoto Gen Z hatuwezani naye.”

Gachagua claimed that he refused to participate in such activities, insisting that as a Christian, he could not assist in stealing or cheating Kenyans.

“Anasema hii mtu nilikuwa na yeye hakunisaidia. Hangeweza kunisaidia, he had no capacity to help me, it is true. I have no capacity to help you to cheat the people of Kenya, because I’m a Christian. Mimi sina capacity ya kukusaidia kupora mali ya Kenya.”

He accused the President of seeking assistance in morally questionable acts, including abductions and killings, which he claimed were orchestrated under the Interior Ministry. The former DP specifically targeted Kithure Kindiki, now Deputy President, starting that his promotion followed his involvement in these controversial activities.

“Na ndio unaona hii mambo ya kuua Gen Z ulikuwa na mtu hapo CS Interior. Akakusaidia abductions na killings ndio ukamwinua akuje akusaidie wizi.,” Gachagua stated.

“Sasa kazi yenu ni pesa ya SHA mnagawanya.”

He further criticised how public funds were being handled, including claims that large sums were kept in containers at State House while smaller amounts were distributed selectively.

“Ile mingi inawekwa container pale State House. Hii ingine unapatia mtu wa soprano na ndege anazunguka akihonga watu. Sasa kama hiyo ndio kazi ulitaka nikusaidie I’m not available.”

Clash over education

The remarks come after a previous public exchange in which President Ruto defended his appointment of Kindiki, citing academic qualifications as a key factor. Ruto argued that Gachagua has a lower educational background, and that is what made him less effective in government and claimed that Kindiki’s credentials would strengthen the administration.

“If you want to succeed, you put around people who are more intelligent than you so that they can help you to shine,” Ruto said during a forum with teachers at State House.

Gachagua responded sharply, questioning the authenticity of Ruto’s academic achievements.

“He pretends to be well educated, but he lies, and he is also mismanaging the country,” Gachagua stated.
