Gachagua tasks Tetu MP to table parliamentary question on murder of PCEA reverend
By Mabonga Makhanu, May 11, 2026The former Deputy President has tasked Tetu Member of Parliament Geofrey Wandeto to table a parliamentary question seeking answers on what led to the murder of the slain reverend Julius Ndumia.
While speaking during the burial of the late Tabaga Presbyterian Church of East Africa Reverend Ndumia on Monday, May 11, 2026, in Tetu, Nyeri County, the Democracy for Citizens (DCP) leader assured the church that, as leaders of the opposition, they will continue fighting for justice for the late bishop until it is achieved.
He further asked the MP to seek answers from Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to appear before the National Assembly and provide explanations on the security situation of Presbyterian Church of East Africa ministers.

“The PCEA church supported William Ruto to a man. How can it be that the church is being attacked every day, and he is quiet? This parish’s ministers are in fear. I have come here to assure them, and I have told Mheshimiwa Wandeto to put a parliamentary question asking for answers when the parliament comes from recess and asking for a statement from Kipchumba Murkomen on what is killing our members.”
Gachagua mourns Ndumia
Gachagua continued expressing his anger, linking the murder of the bishop to the government.
He said this is the first government to kill and attack the church, drawing parallels with the Moi regime, saying that despite all the atrocities linked to it, it never killed a bishop within a church premise.
While mourning the late reverend, Gachagua also recalled the role played by the Presbyterian Church of East Africa in President Ruto’s ascent to power.
He stated that the church voted for Ruto unanimously and ensured he clinched the top seat, only for the president not to guarantee the church’s security.
He recalled how, during the 2022 General Election, they visited three different Presbyterian Churches of East Africa on the same day, contributing Ksh2 million to each church and pleading with the believers to back their presidential bid.
Wamalwa mourns Ndumia

Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa, who was also present, expressed concern over the death of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa bishop.
He said that if the shepherd is not safe, then the flock cannot feel safe. He added that a bishop being killed on church premises is a matter of serious concern.
He told the church not to give up despite what it is going through. He said it remains the country’s hope.
He added that the Presbyterian Church of East Africa has been the voice of the voiceless, even in the darkest days of Kenya’s history, when the church paid heavily.
