Gachagua stands firm on govt ills despite Kioni’s remarks – Senator Nyutu

By , October 2, 2025

Muranga County Senator Joe Nyutu has defended former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, saying he remains steadfast in speaking out on government challenges despite criticism from political opponents.

Speaking during a political talk show aired by a local television station on Thursday, October 1, 2025, Senator Nyutu dismissed remarks from Jeremiah Kioni, describing them as lacking credibility among Kenyans.

Jeremiah Kioni has been consistent in his fight against Gachagua; anything said by Jeremiah Kioni will not be taken seriously by Kenyans,” Nyutu said, emphasising that attempts to undermine Gachagua’s support base are unlikely to succeed.

The Senator noted that Gachagua continues to highlight government shortcomings openly, underscoring his commitment to holding leaders accountable. Nyutu pointed out that claims suggesting a close working relationship between Gachagua and President William Ruto are misleading.

“For someone to tell you Rigathi Gachagua is working with Ruto, then it is a joke of the year,” he remarked, defending the former Deputy President’s independence in voicing concerns over governance.

Nyutu also observed that political alliances in the country can often be misinterpreted, stressing that Gachagua’s engagement with national leaders does not diminish his resolve to speak out on matters affecting Kenyans.

While Jubilee secretary general Kioni has been vocal in his criticisms, Nyutu maintained that Gachagua’s positions on government ills resonate with ordinary citizens.

“The former DP continues to speak out about the ills of the government, while Raila maintains a working relationship with Ruto. From that working relationship, he has been very friendly with William Ruto since he started working with him,” Nyutu added.

The Senator’s comments come amid heightened political debates within Mt. Kenya, where leaders often clash over governance issues and public perception. By defending Gachagua, Nyutu sought to reassure supporters that the former Deputy President’s voice remains independent and focused on accountability.

Nyutu concluded that critics’ attempts to misrepresent Gachagua’s alliances will not weaken his influence or deter him from addressing pressing national issues. The exchange reflects ongoing political tensions and the determination of some leaders to maintain a clear stance on government performance, regardless of opposition or condemnation.
