Gachagua slams Laikipia Woman Rep Jane Kagiri, claims she is a betrayer
By Steve Ireri, June 29, 2025Former Deputy President-turned-opposition leader Rigathi Gachagua has launched a searing attack on Laikipia Woman Representative Jane Kagiri, accusing her of betraying the Mount Kenya region and choosing personal gain over the interests of the people who elected her.
Speaking on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Kwa-Wanjiku in Laikipia West, where he was received by a charged crowd of supporters, Gachagua did not mince his words as he likened Kagiri to the biblical Judas Iscariot, saying she had sold out the community to President William Ruto.
Gachagua, who appeared visibly angered, told residents that he was willing to continue leading the national resistance against what he termed as political suppression but needed help from the electorate to root out leaders whom he claimed had abandoned the region.
“Leave me the work of chasing Kasongo, I can handle that. but I want you to help me chase after all the leaders who have betrayed our region,” Gachagua told the cheering crowd.
He tore into Kagiri at length, accusing her of abandoning the people of Laikipia in pursuit of self-interest and political convenience.
According to Gachagua, the public should demand her immediate exit from office, insisting that she has no business holding that position if all she does is betray the very people who once voted for her with unwavering loyalty.
“You all know Judas. She has betrayed us. Say her name, Jane Kagiri. Yes, let her go, let her go. That woman, we gave her the seat for women, but she has sold us out to Ruto. She has placed her stomach and her own interests ahead of the people. Let her go home. She is a traitor. Let her go,” he said as the crowd erupted in chants.
Gachagua pressed on, asking the gathering how many of them were in support of her ouster, to which many responded by raising their hands.
The former Mathira MP also took a swipe at Laikipia West MP Stephen Wachira Karani, claiming he had similarly turned his back on the people of the region.
He said that by aligning himself with William Ruto, Wachira had sold out the region, adding that such a high level of betrayal disqualifies him from holding public office any further.
“That one, Wachira Wa Karani, he is also a Judas. He sold us to Kasongo. We want him to also go. He has no business,” Gachagua declared.
