Gachagua seeks Kamba vote for 2032, knows Ruto will defeat Kalonzo in 2027 – Didmus Barasa
By Luke Oluoch, December 22, 2025Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has accused the former deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua, of harbouring selfish motives in his support for his united opposition principal and Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka.
In a statement on his X page on Monday, December 22, 2025, Barasa opined that Gachagua’s future ambitions, preferably in the 2032 elections, have informed his decision to support Kalonzo Musyoka ahead of the 2027 polls.
Doomed for 2027
According to the legislator, their chances to unseat President William Ruto in the 2027 polls remain unlikely, and Gachagua’s sole interest in the contest lies in demonstrating solidarity, which he would in turn seek to be reciprocated by the Kamba votes.
“Gachagua is secretly “scheming” to capture the Kamba vote specifically for a 2032 presidential run; he knows President William Ruto will easily defeat Kalonzo in 2027.
His remarks come after former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama also made similar assertions.

In his remarks, Muthama warned Kalonzo over his association with Gachagua, whom he claims was merely fronting Kalonzo in order to get back to the Kamba community for his future presidential bid.
Speaking in Kwale on Monday, December 15, 2025, Muthama stated that Kalonzo must rethink his strategy if he stands any chance of becoming Kenya’s president.
Change tact
“He (Kalonzo) needs to change his mindset and understand that Kenya is far bigger than tribal politics. Votes from the Kikuyu or Kamba communities alone cannot get him the presidency. He needs prayers for God to open his eyes to the best strategy for rising to the presidency,” he said.
In a veiled jibe at Kalonzo’s associates in the United Opposition, Muthama expressed doubts on the eligibility and suitability of the politicians.
“I pray that God will give us a president who will unite Kenyans. Ruto could be a tribal leader, but he has not engaged in tribal politics or displayed his tribal side. Yet look at the others—they keep talking about having secured the voting bases from Mt Kenya to wherever, but they cannot even win elections if they are left to contest alone,” he posited.
Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) and Kalonzo have emerged as key figures in a growing coalition of opposition leaders. This alliance, which includes other political heavyweights such as Martha Karua, Justin Muturi, and the DAP-K party duo of George Natembeya and Eugene Wamalwa, aim to challenge President William Ruto’s administration and present a unified front in the 2027 polls.
