Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has vowed to end monopoly in the milk and gas sector in the country.

Gachagua charged that life has become unbearable for Kenyans due to the continued monopoly of the milk and gas sector that has seen to an increase in the commodities.

Last week President William Ruto promised that his administration will ensure that gas retails at between Sh300 and Sh500 starting June this year.

Yesterday, Gachagua while attending a church service at Jesus Winner Chapel in Roysambu, Nairobi said that milk and gas has been controlled for long by only two families and that there is need to end their hold.

Continued control

“There has been a monopoly by one person in the milk sector. We are opening up that sector. We are going to open up the milk industry and gas industry,” said Gachagua.

According to Gachagua, retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Jubilee administration did not want him and President Ruto to win the 2022 polls so that they could continue to control the critical sectors of the economy.

Gachagua further reiterated that they inherited empty coffers when they took over the leadership in September last year, adding that the same people who labelled them thieves plundered the country’s coffers.

However, there is no court of law that has found the former administration of financial misappropriation despite Gachagua’s claims.

“We have started from scratch. They stole everything from the Treasury especially the last months before the elections. They told us that they cannot hand over to thieves, yet they are the biggest thieves. We will be releasing details,” said Gachagua.

He went on, “They wanted to continue with State capture and monopoly and that is why they did not want us to win the elections. We are determined to bring more players in the milk and gas sector.”

The DP was categorical that the former administration presided over the leadership of the country with a lot of pride, arrogance and self-entitlement, a move that led to the what he termed as ‘project Azimio’.

Gachagua chided the retired President and his ‘Handshake’ partner Raila Odinga that they failed in their quest for leadership in the 2022 polls because they showed disdain to the men of the cloth.

According to Gachagua, in the run up to the August 2022 polls, the then Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i sent police officers at a function in Kenol and threw teargas canisters to the clergy. “They insulted anointed men of God and said that they love money. They had pride and used to talk the way they wanted. Matiang’i even sent police to throw canisters at Bishops. They desecrated the Church of Christ. God taught them a lesson,” said Gachagua.

The first-time DP further charged that the retired President Uhuru’s regime had planned to lock him in Kamiti if Azimio won the Presidency.

He said that they will soon tour Mount Kenya with President Ruto and start working from Sagana, claiming that the place must first be cleansed.
