Gachagua pledges support for cabinet secretaries from ODM
By Valerian Khakayi, August 13, 2024Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has pledged his support for the Cabinet Secretaries (CS) from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Gachagua, who had accompanied President William Ruto on his three-day development tour in Kisii and Nyamira Counties, on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, said that the Kenya Kwanza administration will support the four CSs from ODM appointed by Ruto to head various dockets in the broad-based cabinet.
Gachagua added that the broad-based cabinet formed by Ruto will unite Kenyans by bridging the wide rift in the country adding that he will support the president in bringing together citizens from different regions.
“Unaona Rais anajaribu uunganisha wananchi, hata wale wamekuja walikuwa ODM na ni mawaziri tutawa support. Tutawaunga mkono. Hii Kenya ni ya sisi wote na kwa hivyo rais sisi tunakuunga mkono. Unite us let us make this country move forward,”Gachagua said.

CS from ODM
Ruto appointed John Mbadi as the CS for National Treasury, Ali Hassan Joho as CS for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, Wycliffe Oparanya to head the Ministry of Cooperatives and MSMEs and Opiyo Wandayi appointed the CS for Energy.
Broad-based cabinet
Ruto, in his new resolve after firing his entire Cabinet, expressed his keenness to constitute a broad-based executive that would see key figures from the opposition make entry into the government.
This is Ruto’s second cabinet two years into his election as Kenya’s fifth president.
Ruto, on July 19, 2024, during a press briefing, revealed that the formation of a broad-based cabinet would help his administration drive the urgently needed and irreversible transformation of the country.
“I have started the process of forming a new, broad-based cabinet to assist me in driving the urgently needed and irreversible transformation of our country,” Ruto said.
