Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sharply criticised the current administration, accusing it of allowing conflict of interest and corruption to take root, to the detriment of ordinary Kenyans struggling with daily challenges.

In a statement shared on X on Friday, April 10, 2026, Gachagua expressed concern that leadership driven by personal interests is distorting national development and sidelining the needs of citizens across the country.

“It is disheartening to observe that when a government is led by conflict of interest, development priorities are often skewed in favour of personal gain rather than the greater good of the public,” the statement reads.

Gachagua went on to claim that the current leadership has normalised self-interest, arguing that issues affecting citizens are ignored if they do not directly benefit those in power.

“The current administration has unfortunately mastered the art of prioritising self-interest over the needs of its citizens, effectively rendering any aspect that doesn’t benefit them as ‘unimportant,” he wrote.

The former deputy president further revisited earlier promises from him and the president to fight corruption and conflict of interest, saying those efforts have since been overtaken by powerful individuals controlling state systems.

“Regrettably, we had previously committed to addressing the endemic issues of conflict of interest and State Capture, but it appears that the ‘lords of impunity’ have successfully captured the state at the expense of Kenyans,” Gachagua wrote.

Gachagua described the situation as urgent and dangerous, warning that continued inaction could deepen public frustration and weaken trust in institutions meant to serve the people.

“This is a dire state of affairs that requires immediate attention,” the statement reads.

“As the United Alternative Government, we have engaged with the great people of Masinga Shopping Centre in Masinga Constituency, Machakos County,” he wrote.

Gachagua concluded by assuring Kenyans that his team will continue mobilising and speaking out on governance issues as they push for change ahead of the next political phase.

“We reaffirm our commitment to continue informing and discussing these pressing concerns with the Kenyan people as we prepare towards a new dispensation that is free from corruption and cartels,” Gachagua concluded.
