Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has said he will consult former President Uhuru Kenyatta after completing his ongoing 45-day public consultation before announcing his next political move.

Speaking while meeting Murang’a MCAs at his Wamunyoro residence on Saturday, July 11, 2026, Gachagua said he will sit down with the former President to compare notes and seek his advice after gathering views from the people.

“Na nikimaliza hii mazungumzo yote mkinipatia maoni, kabla sijasema chochote, nitaenda nikae chini na Rais Uhuru Kenyatta so that we compare notes. Ndio pia Uhuru anishauri, si ndio?” Gachagua said.

Briefing Uhuru on public views

The former Deputy President said he will brief Kenyatta on the views he has gathered from residents of the Mt Kenya region and seek his opinion before making a decision.

“Pia nataka Uhuru Kenyatta nimwambie vile watu wameniambia mlimani. Niende niseme ‘mkubwa wetu pia, nimeambiwa namna hii, unaona aje?’ kwa sababu ulikuwa umetuambia tukapotea,” he said.

Gachagua added that he is listening to residents during the ongoing consultations and would also seek Kenyatta’s guidance as an experienced leader.

“So this time, mimi nimeskiza watu pia nataka pia wewe kama kiongozi unishauri. Si ndio?” he said.

He further maintained that he and Kenyatta are working together, saying their unity would help consolidate the Mt Kenya region politically.

“Na mimi na Rais Uhuru Kenyatta tunafanya kazi pamoja. Na mimi na ndugu yangu mkubwa Uhuru Kenyatta ni kama chanda na pete,” Gachagua said.

Govt attack on Uhuru

According to Gachagua, attacks directed at the former President are linked to fears among their political rivals that cooperation between the two leaders could strengthen Mt Kenya’s political unity.

“They are insulting Uhuru because they know that he and I are together. They know that when Uhuru and I are united, the mountain is held together,” he said.

Gachagua also accused unnamed political rivals of attempting to create divisions within the United Opposition, saying there are efforts to turn opposition leaders against one another.

“They are trying to divide the United Opposition. They are trying to make us fight among ourselves,” he said.
