Gachagua fires at IG Kanja, accuses police of blocking his motorcade in Nakuru
By Cynthia Lodite, February 9, 2026Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has lashed out at the Inspector General of the National Police Service (IG-NPS), Douglas Kanja, for failing to keep his commitment just days after a closed-door meeting.
Taking to his official X account on Monday, February 9, 2026, Gachagua accused Police Officers of blocking his motor entourage in Nakuru.
“Bwana IG when we called on you on Friday 30th January 2026 with other National leaders before your two deputies and other senior officers you gave us several commitments,” Gachagua said.
According to Gachagua, during the recent meeting with IG Kanja, there was a clarification that the National Police Service is not a political institution and would not meddle in politics.
Further, Gachagua noted that IG Kanja went ahead to assure the United Opposition leaders that the service will respect the constitutional provisions that guarantee freedom of movement and assembly.
Gachagua expressed his disappointment in Kanja after his assurance that the Police officers would never disrupt his public meetings turned foul.
“You gave a categorical undertaking that under your command, the police will never disrupt public meetings or stop leaders from engaging members of the public. We doubted your assurances but nevertheless gave you the benefit of the doubt while knowing very well you have surrendered the command of the National Police Service to politicians, political operatives and goons,” Gachagua said.
While narrating the Nakuru incident, the DCP Party leader confirmed that he had alerted the Nakuru Police Command of his upcoming gathering. To his surprise, he was met with four police Land Cruisers blocking his entrance.
“I specifically alerted you that the Police Command in Nakuru County was in the hands of the spouse to the County Governor,” Gachagua said.

Nakuru road block
Gachagua explained that Police Officer errected a roadblock at the Karati River, blocking his entourage from entering Nakuru county from Nyandarua county to address a planned gathering.
“Yesterday the busybody ordered the Nakuru County Commander Mr. Opuru Emmanuel of telephone number 0722588054 to erect a road block at Karati River and stop my entourage from entering Nakuru county from Nyandarua county to address the public at Kinamba Trading Center in Naivasha,” he added.
“The police in four land cruisers under the command of Naivasha OCPD Mr. Sigei Wilson of telephone 0721970962 had officers masking their faces and harassed members of the public for over one hour and withdrew after hundreds of agitated members of the public arrived at the scene and demanded the roadblock be removed to allow my entourage access Nakuru county,” Gachagua explained.
