Former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader, Rigathi Gachagua, has confirmed that there is cohesion in the United Opposition, comprising different political outfits. This comes amid the perceived headache of choosing the preferred presidential candidate to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during the Wiper Party National Delegates Conference on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Uhuru Park, Gachagua noted that the United Opposition is committed to working together in forming the next government that will uphold the country’s constitution.

The former Deputy President had earlier denied having a rift with Matiang’i.

”The United Opposition remains steadfast in its commitment to providing an alternative government dedicated to upholding Kenya’s Constitution, rooted in integrity, and free from corruption and extrajudicial killings. Our vision is to restore the dignity of the Kenyan people and infuse sobriety into our government institutions,” Gachagua said.

During the Wiper NDC that was attended by top opposition chiefs comprising Fred Matiang’i, Justin Muturi, Eugene Wamalwa, and Martha Karua, alongside other notable leaders, Gachagua said the team believes in human rights and the rule of law.

His sentiments come at a time when the state has been on the spot for using excessive force in dealing with the anti-government protests lately.

”We believe in a future where justice, accountability, and respect for human rights guide our nation’s leadership,” Rigathi Gachagua said.

Kalonzo endorsed

At the event, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka was endorsed as the party’s presidential candidate in the next general election, weeks after the People’s Liberation Party (PLP) also endorsed party leader Martha Karua as its preferred presidential candidate in the 2027 presidential polls. Gachagua congratulated Kalonzo Musyoka following his endorsement, adding that the United Opposition will settle on a single candidate to face President William Ruto in 2027 and transform the country as the Head of State.

”I congratulate my brother Kalonzo Musyoka on his endorsement as Wiper’s presidential flag bearer. The United Opposition remains united and committed and will present a single candidate at the ballot box—one who will lead Kenya towards a brighter, more accountable, and just future,” Gachagua added.

Meanwhile, as the United Opposition insists, there is togetherness; it remains unknown who they will settle on as their preferred candidate among Kalonzo Musyoka, Rigathi Gachagua, Martha Karua, Fred Matiang’i, among others.
