Gachagua defies Murkomen, vows to keep speaking out despite incitement claims

By , July 8, 2026

Former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizen’s Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has defiantly responded to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, insisting that he will not be intimidated into silence over accusations that he is inciting Kenyans through his public remarks.

Speaking during a consultative meeting with Westlands constituency leaders at his Wamunyoro residence on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, Gachagua maintained that he was merely telling Kenyans the truth and dismissed Murkomen’s claims that his statements were inflammatory.

Unaskia Murkomen akisema that I am inciting people. I am telling people the truth, and there’s nothing you can do to me,” Gachagua declared.

The former deputy president has doubled down on his remarks, adding that he would continue addressing Kenyans regardless of any criticism or threats directed at him.

“There is nothing you can do to me. I will continue telling Kenyans the truth, na hakuna mahali mtanipeleka,” he said.

Gachagua’s feud with Murkomen

The remarks by the DCP leader have appeared to be a direct response to recent warnings by CS Murkomen, who has repeatedly cautioned political leaders against making statements that could heighten political tensions or incite the public.

Murkomen has maintained that the government will firmly deal with leaders found violating the law through hate speech, incitement or utterances likely to undermine national security and public order.

Gachagua dismissed the accusations, arguing that exposing what he termed government failures should not be mistaken for incitement. According to the former Deputy President, his criticism is aimed at informing citizens rather than provoking unrest.

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader has in recent months intensified his criticism of President William Ruto’s administration, accusing it of economic mismanagement, political intimidation and failure to address the concerns of ordinary Kenyans.

The exchange underscores the growing tensions ahead of the 2027 General Election, as opposition leaders continue to accuse the government of attempting to suppress dissent while the administration insists that all political actors must operate within the confines of the law.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen are locked in an escalating political feud.

Gachagua accuses Murkomen of orchestrating violence, using state-sponsored goons, and targeting his political rallies. Conversely, Murkomen accuses Gachagua of inciting ethnic division and sponsoring national instability.
