Gachagua: DCP to take governor, senator and woman rep posts in Nairobi under Wiper deal

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has placed his Nairobi political agreement at the center of his defense after criticism over the by-election.

Speaking during a Thanksgiving event in Kariobangi North on Sunday, November 30, 2025, Gachagua said that DCP had made major gains in the capital.

He told supporters that Nairobi would form the base of his party’s growth and revealed details of a deal between DCP and Wiper for the 2027 polls.

“Mimi niseme watu ya Kariobangi asanteni sana. DCP is the party for Nairobi.

He then outlined the specific positions agreed upon between the two parties.

Gachagua said the agreement showed that DCP had a clear plan for Nairobi and insisted that the party would win most seats in the city.

After presenting the deal, he turned to the by-election debate that had dominated political discussions over the last week. He dismissed the argument that the Mbeere North result signalled his declining influence in Mt Kenya politics.

Gachagua pushed back, saying critics were exaggerating the importance of the Embu result while ignoring DCP gains in other regions.

Chama ambaye ni ya mwezi saba imechukua viti tatu out of five,” he said.

He added that he had travelled to Mbeere only to back the Democratic Party candidate, who he claimed had been denied a win. He said his main focus remained on building DCP into a national party.

“Lakini sisi we focus on our party, DCP. Na hapa Nairobi nataka DCP ishinde. Hapa Kariobangi tulishinda UDA walikuwa namba 4, Narok tulishinda UDA, Kisa East tulishinda UDA na ODM. Hiyo hawaongei.”

The Kariobangi North event itself turned chaotic as rival groups clashed before and during the Thanksgiving ceremony for newly elected MCA David Wanyoike Warui. The violence disrupted parts of the gathering, prompting Gachagua to accuse the government of trying to intimidate him and his supporters.

“Every time you plan to disrupt our meetings and beat up people, you are losing further, and this community hatred towards you grows. If you think you can make these people embrace you through intimidation and violence, you are misguided,” he said.
