Ex-Kirinyaga Woman Rep Ngurici calls on leaders to face failures, rebuild public trust
By Kiprono Keileb, March 17, 2026Former Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici has called on leaders across the country to embrace accountability and take responsibility for their actions, warning that public trust continues to erode when leaders avoid scrutiny.
In a statement shared on X on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, Ngirici reflected on the true meaning of leadership, urging those in authority to constantly evaluate their actions and the promises they have made to citizens.
“True leadership is not a crown to wear, but a mirror to hold up daily. Accountability is the unflinching gaze into that mirror-where leaders confront not just what they have achieved, but what they have promised, what they have failed to deliver, and whose lives remain untouched by their tenure,” Ngirici wrote.
She went on to stress that genuine leadership requires honesty and courage, noting that leaders must admit shortcomings instead of shifting blame or avoiding responsibility when things go wrong.
“Genuine leaders do not hide behind excuses or shift blame like pieces on a board. They step forward, own the shortfall, correct the course, and rebuild trust brick by brick. Accountability is the oxygen of credible governance. Without it, power becomes performance; institutions erode; and the people whom leaders are meant to serve grow cynical and distant. But when leaders embrace it fully, they transform suspicion into partnership, and fleeting mandates into lasting legacies. Let us demand more than charisma or connections,” she wrote.

Ngirici further challenged Kenyans to raise their expectations when choosing leaders, saying that integrity, honesty, and action should matter more than popularity or political influence.
“Let us seek those who understand that real power is measured not in applause received, but in answers given-honest, timely, and followed by action. Because a nation thrives only when its stewards are willing to be held to the same standard they preach. Choose leaders who fear disappointing the people more than losing their position. That is the mark of true stewardship,” she stated.
