Eugene Wamalwa hints at teaming up with Oparanya after indoor meeting
By Mabonga Makhanu, January 28, 2026Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has held a sit-down with Cooperatives and SMEs Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya, days after being urged by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula to join their alliance that is in the offing.
In a statement shared on his social media pages on Wednesday, January 28, 2025, he briefed the country on his meeting with the Cooperatives CS.
He shared that he has had the opportunity of working with him in the past and will continue working together as they move into the future in their quest for the unity of Western Kenya, urging Kenyans to watch that space.

“Delighted to catch up with my brother CS @DrOparanya, with whom I have worked closely in the past and intend to continue working with in the future, in our quest for the unity and prosperity of the Mulembe Nation and the greater Kenyan Nation. Watch this space!”
Wetang’ula’s plea to Eugene

This comes days after Wetang’ula urged him to defect from the opposition and join him, Oparanya, and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, stating that there are ongoing plans to form an alliance that will be used as a vehicle to drum up support for President William Ruto.
The Ford Kenya leader told Wamalwa that since he, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya are on the same side, he too should join them in the quest for the Mulembe unity they have long dreamed of.
Why form a pact?
He further emphasised that it is Eugene who should join their side and not vice versa so that they can have a stronger united front that will enable them to bargain harder and more effectively.

“Eugene, I agree. Let’s unite. I have talked with Oparanya, I have talked with Musalia, and if you look at how we are, Musalia, Oparanya, and I are on one side, and that is why you should come to where we are so that we can build a huge team so that we can bargain harder and better,” he said.
He added that the door is open for Wamalwa to enter, and that if it means opening the door for him, then he will personally open it.
“The door is open, my brother; if it means opening the door for you, I will do so.”
