Edwin Sifuna: Linda Mwananchi movement is about the people

By , February 24, 2026

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has stood firm despite mounting political pressure on his faction, stating that the Sifuna Movement is about the people, not individuals.

Speaking at a local TV station in a morning interview on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, sifuna has said the disruption of the Linda Mwananchi rallies, where the tear gas suddenly cut short the rallies, will not stop, and even if they silence him, others will speak on behalf of the people because the movement is about the people and not him as an individual.

“I have been amazed by the outpouring of support from Kenyans of all walks of life, and I take this opportunity to thank them, and it gives me great comfort to know that even if they tamed me there are other Sifunas out there……It’s going to take more than teargas to stop the voice and the movement of the people,” Sifuna said.

The outspoken Nairobi senator has once again stated that no tear gas or intimidation could get him to keep quiet, and together with other like-minded leaders, they would continue to speak out against what he describes as injustice in the country.

Kitengela and Kakamega rallies disruption

Sifuna’s first mobilisation after the decision by the ODM party’s NEC in Kitengela was thrown into confusion when police used tear gas on the crowd, scattering thousands of supporters, and the mobilisations were curtailed.

The senator claimed that it is ridiculous that Kisumu International Airport has posed what he termed as security threats, which made him change his plans of travelling at the last moment. He asserted that the flight information on the Linda Mwananchi delegation had been leaked, and it would make them vulnerable to attacks and cut short their landing at a smaller airstrip in Kakamega. He contended that the unauthorised people who got to know about their route were out to sabotage their trip, and this posed a serious question about the safety and the efficiency of state agencies to protect the masses.

“We need to hear from KAA whether Kisumu is still an International Airport and whether they can still guarantee the safety of all passengers transiting through there. How they allowed goons to barricade the airport needs to be explained,” Sifuna Said.

KAA refutes Sifuna’s claims

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) vehemently denied the claims made by Sifuna, claiming that there was no moment when illegal individuals were on the airport grounds and that security measures were not compromised during the period of time.

The authority clarified that the pictures on the internet were taken outside the airport premises and within its territory and said that all operations at Kisumu International Airport were safe and uninterrupted.

Sifuna has made it very clear that he is not going to be deterred by any physical obstacles, intimidation, or even trying to silence his voice and the larger movement he claims to speak on behalf of the Kenyan people, going with the slogan, “sisi ndio sifuna.”

In his narration, despite his possible silence by the state, there would still be dozens of others speaking on behalf of those who deserved accountability, justice, and increased democratic freedoms.
