DP Kindiki: The president decides my diary
By Kenneth Mwenda, November 16, 2025Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has once again defended his close working relationship with President William Ruto, saying his schedule is fully guided by the Head of State.
Speaking during a Sunday service in Nandi on November 16, 2025, Kindiki explained that he does not operate on a personal diary because his responsibilities depend on the president’s instructions.
Addressing worshippers, the DP narrated how his visit to the church came about. He said Bishop Korir had invited him earlier, but he could not confirm immediately because his movements are tied to the president’s programme.
“Mimi nimekuja hapa, najua Askofu Korir, rafiki yangu, alikuwa amenialika,” he said.
“Nilimwambia nitaona kama itawezekana kwa sababu mimi sasa katika hii ofisi, sina diary. Diary yangu inategemea diary ya rais. Rais anaamka anasema fanya hivi au kesho fanya hivi, so siwezi kukuambia ati sasa November sijui mwaka gani nitakuwa hapo.”
Kindiki said he had planned to send a representative to the church function, but the president later directed him to travel to Kapsabet. He told the congregation not to praise him for attending, insisting that he was there because the president approved the visit.
“Msinisifu,” he said. “Mshukuru rais kwa sababu yeye ndiye amesema nikuje hapa leo.”

Kindiki vows loyalty, unity
His remarks mirror his earlier position on February 18, 2025, when he dismissed claims that he was competing with the president. During a meeting with Meru leaders at his Karen residence, Kindiki said his job as deputy president is to support the president’s agenda rather than challenge him.
“My work is to assist the president, not to fight him,” he said at the time. He told critics that anyone interested in opposing the president should join the opposition, because the role of a deputy president is to help the Head of State deliver on government commitments.
He added that his performance would be judged by how well he executes the responsibilities of deputy president, not by comparisons with the president. He said he is confident he will meet expectations.
Kindiki also defended President Ruto against political hostility. He said the administration prefers to stay focused on its duties rather than chase applause. According to him, temporary criticism is acceptable as long as the government stays on course and Kenyans judge results at the ballot.
The DP has continued to receive public praise from the president. In April 2025, President Ruto described him as respectful, hardworking, and committed to national unity. Speaking in Tharaka Nithi, the president said Kindiki has made his work easier with his disciplined approach to government tasks.
