Didmus Barasa labels Tim Wanyonyi a tourist from Nairobi in fresh onslaught

Kimilili Member of Parliament (MP) Didmus Barasa has once again taken a swipe at his opponent in the race for the Bungoma gubernatorial job by referring to Tim Wanyonyi as a tourist from Nairobi.

In a statement on his X page on Monday, September 29, 2025, Barasa urged the residents of Sirisia to rally behind his candidacy, criticising the area MP for electing to side with Tim Wanyonyi.

Endorsements

“Your MP went to Nairobi and, in unison with a few other MPs from this region, they endorsed that tourist from Nairobi. I have also come here to beg for your support,” he stated.

“He endorsed that tourist while I have earned the endorsement of 7000 people from here,” he stated.

The remarks follow his claim that his quest for the county’s gubernatorial position had unsettled his opponents.

In a statement posted on his social media page on Saturday, September 20, 2025, the MP claimed that some of his opponents in the contest had developed pressure-related complications due to his approval by the citizens.

“You see, how wananchi have embraced me and my candidacy has caused some leaders to suffer from pressure, and others are not getting any sleep,” he stated.

He also chided Webuye MP Wanyama as he challenged the voters to persuade the legislator to support his bid.

“To my opponents who have been saying bad things about me. I want you to elect me and see whether he (Wanyama) will stay here after I become the governor. But try to talk to him so that he supports my bid,” he implored the residents.

As the battle for the 2027 polls nears, Barasa has moved to position himself as the people’s choice and the best bet to succeed Ken Lusaka.

The outspoken politician has contrasted his bid with Wanyonyi’s, who is in a race that also has former Governor Wycliffe Wangamati among the front-runners.

“I am asking for your support. I have the people’s interests and concerns as my priority. I have not been fronted by anyone, and I am the project of the wananchi,” he said.

“I am confident God cannot allow the interest of one individual who was fronted after a meeting in Nairobi to override the broad interest of people of Bungoma,” he added.
