The National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula (below) has raised concern over persistent wrangles pitting some Gusii leaders and challenged them to embrace dialogue to resolve them.

He said the on-going battles pitting Governor Simba Arati and a section of elected leaders over non-payment of contractors is hampering development and hurting residents.

Pending bills

Governor Arati has maintained the government will only pay genuine pending bills to contractors, sparking protests by contractors and some elected leaders.

The governor has periodically reiterated that out of Sh1.6 billion pending bills he inherited from the former county government, only Sh231 million were genuine and stressed he will not waste public funds to pay for ghost projects.

Speaking during silver Jubilee celebration for priests- Lawrence Mandere, Francis Mose and Vincent Simba at Nyabururu catholic church, he reminded the leaders to unite, work together to uplift lives of residents “You were elected to serve the people and ensure that devolution works. When you fight, they suffer” Wetang’ula said on Saturday.

The Speaker, hosted by Bishop Joseph Mairura said resources have been devolved to all counties and implored the leaders to ensure they are utilised to benefit residents.
