DCP’s Peter Mbae rejects calls for Gachagua to soften public statements
By Luke Oluoch, December 4, 2025Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Head of Strategy, Peter Mbae, has dismissed assertions that his party boss Rigathi Gachagua, needs to tone down his public statements.
Speaking to a local TV station on Thursday, November 4, 2025, Mbae branded the calls for Gachagua to moderate his fiery rhetoric as a trap.
“People have been telling Gachagua that he talks too much. I want to tell them, do not fall into the trap of telling him not to speak. He is meant to speak daily for breakfast, lunch, and supper,” he stated.
The DCP official also lamented the deliberate attempts by the state machinery to paint the DCP supremo through tribal blinkers.
According to Mbae, Gachagua must disabuse the narrative being peddled to create confusion and assassinate his character.
“Gachagua must continue speaking every day and disabuse the narratives that Ruto continues to spew. He is the master of narratives. He is the one who branded Raila a mchawi, and for the longest time, it stayed with people,” he added.
“Gachagua has to speak and disabuse such narratives and make them not stick to him,” he added.
Mbae’s remarks come after a number of Gachagua’s fiery statements continue to elicit growing tensions in Kenya’s opposition coalition.
Among them is the proposed power-sharing formula regarding agreements the DCP party has entered into and the recent deal he claimed he has struck with Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) over the sharing of seats in Nairobi.
Gachagua’s fiery statements
Gachagua disclosed that he struck a secret deal with Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper that would see his DCP party get almost all Nairobi seats.
Among the seats he said DCP will take include the governor’s, senator’s, and the woman representative’s positions.
he also added that that his party would also dominate the sharing formula of parliamentary seats
“Tumekubaliana kiti cha governor kitachukuliwa na DCP. Kiti cha senator kitachukuliwa na DCP. Kiti cha women rep kitachukuliwa na DCP. Tumekubaliana na Wiper kati ya viti kumi na saba, kati ya DCP na Wiper, tutachukua viti kumi na sita. Na kati ya viti themanini na tano, between DCP and Wiper, tutachukua 75.”
