DAP-K sets aside internal wrangles to focus on winning Malava by-election
By Mabonga Makhanu, August 12, 2025DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa has announced that the party has decided to shelve its internal wrangles and leave them in the hands of the designated committee, as members focus on campaigning for and securing the Malava parliamentary seat.
Speaking during a press briefing that brought together the National Executive Council (NEC) to deliberate on issues that had sparked internal disputes on Tuesday, August 2025, Wamalwa noted that many had expected confrontations at Chui House.
However, the meeting concluded with a stronger sense of unity and democracy within the party, with no signs of hostility or conflict among members.

He emphasised that DAP-K is a democratic party with a strong internal democracy and an effective internal dispute resolution mechanism. The newly appointed team will take the lead in listening to and resolving any disputes within the party in a fair and transparent manner.
“Ours is a democratic party. We have a very strong internal democracy, we have a very strong internal dispute resolution mechanism, and today we have appointed such a team that will lead, listen to, and resolve any dispute within our party,” Eugene stated
Wamalwa added that the party’s immediate focus is on winning the Malava parliamentary by-election. Led by Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula, alongside Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and other party leaders, the team will head to Malava to rally support and secure the seat.
“Sisi kutoka hapa tukiongozwa na deputy governor wa Kakamega Ayub Savula, tunataka tuelekee huko na governor Natembeya na hawa viongozi wote twende Malava; we have a seat to win called Malava,” he stated.
Malava contest
He declared that the Malava contest will be a decisive battle against the broad-based government, predicting it will serve as their political “Waterloo”. He stated that DAP-K will use the by-election to demonstrate its political might, and its aim of making the current administration a Wantam government, and their dream of ensuring so will begin in Malava.

“Tunataka tuambie wenzetu wa broad-based government, the battle that is going to come up in Malava DAP-K is going to become your Waterloo; tukisema wantam inaenda kuanzia Malava na DAP-K is going to show you what wantam is,” he said.
