The Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) has constituted an eight-member team to address ongoing disputes within its leadership.

In a statement delivered by the party’s Secretary General, David Eseli Simiyu, after a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, the party announced that the decision followed recent disagreements among its top leadership.

The meeting, held at the party headquarters and attended by party leader Eugene Wamalwa and deputy party leader, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, sought to provide a structured approach to resolving internal conflicts.

Eseli explained that the National Management Committee had earlier mandated the NEC to appoint members to an Internal Dispute Resolution Committee to handle emerging issues within the party.

“Last time you were here, we informed you that we had heard some disagreements within the party, and a national management committee had mandated a meeting for the national committee executive council to appoint members to the internal dispute resolution committee so that it can deal with issues that were emerging in the party,” Eseli stated.

The committee’s role will be to receive, review, and make recommendations on disputes and petitions presented by party members.

The appointed members of the Internal Dispute Resolution Committee are Wakili Ken Echesa, Caleb Burundi, Sumea Bashir, Dr Reginalda Wanyonyi, Edel Fuchuka, Pauline Odegah, Dr Chris Barasa, and Abel Mutimba. The team will select a chairperson from among themselves to lead the proceedings.

“The national executive committee has appointed the following into the internal dispute resolution committee: Wakili Ken Echesa, Caleb Burundi, Sumea Bashir, Dr Reginalda Wanyonyi, Edel Fuchuka, Pauline O’Degea, Dr Chris Barasa, and Abel Mutimba,” he added.

Function of the committee

Their mandate includes listening to both petitioners and respondents, ensuring a fair hearing for all parties, and coming up with recommendations based on their findings.

These recommendations are expected to be forwarded to the NEC within the next 30 days for further action.

“The above appointees will select a member who will chair them and look at the petitions that had come before the party and solve the matters that will arise. They have a mandate to listen to both the petitioners and respondents and take their views in a fair hearing and come up with a recommendation. Those recommendations are supposed to be forwarded to the NEC within the next 30 days,” he added.

The move is aimed at ensuring stability in the party’s leadership and safeguarding DAP-K’s commitment to internal democracy and dispute resolution through structured, fair, and transparent processes.
