By , March 3, 2026

Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has called on Mbeere North Member of Parliament Leo Wamuthenda, who sits in parliament, to hold the government answerable and to call out the government whenever it fails the people. He

In an interview with a local radio station on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, where he was interviewed with Wamuthende, Maanzo objected to the lawmaker saying that the Social Health Assurance (SHA) program is working on.

“A lot of money went into getting Wa Muthende into Parliament, but true change begins with citizens taking their power seriously at the ballot box. I urge you to use your opportunity as the people’s representative to challenge them when they are wrong. Don’t say SHA is working when it is not,” Maanzo said.

Maanzo exposed that the state spent millions of money on the successful campaign of Wamuthende as Mbeere North constituency Member of Parliament, adding that the victory he received should be accompanied by a duty to speak up and serve the interests of the people.

Maanzo calls on youths to register as voters

In his statement, Maanzo further requested the youth to enroll to vote, saying that the youth should be the only people to kick out a tainted parliament and see the leaders serve the people with true intentions. He said that the youth’s participation in the elections is central to ensuring a government that is responsive.

“When an MP is being bribed, there is a child who misses out on school and essential services. “That’s why it’s crucial to register as a voter and exercise your right to vote for a new, accountable, and effective government,” Maanzo added.

The outspoken Makueni senator is a regular critic of the inefficiency of the existing regime and has openly condemned the need to oust it in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Maanzo is allied to the United Alternative government, which is a coalition that is fighting against the re-election of President William Ruto.

The comments made by Maanzo highlight the role played by the financing of campaigns by businesses in the political process and the fact that the elected leaders are supposed to be independent and accountable.
