Cracks in opposition: Linturi cautions DCP supporters against PNU rally amid rift with Munya
The feud between Meru gubernatorial hopefuls Mithika Linturi and Peter Munya has taken a new turn after the latter cautioned Democracy for Citizens (DCP) party supporters against attending a united opposition rally organised by the Party of National Unity (PNU).
This comes after a poster shared by PNU notifying supporters within Isiolo and Meru counties to attend the event, where United Alternative Government leaders were expected to grace the occasion.

In a statement shared on his social media pages on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the outspoken former senator said that he had seen a poster circulating on social media regarding the attendance of his party leader at PNU party meetings scheduled for May 20 to 24 this month.
This is in reference to a poster I have seen circulating on social media regarding the attendance of my party leader at the PNU party meetings scheduled from the 20th to the 24th of this month.

“For avoidance of doubt, I am the national organising secretary of DCP, charged with the responsibilities of organising all party activities and events where my party leader is involved. My party leader is busy in the United Kingdom, attending diaspora meetings to popularise our party. I therefore urge all our party supporters to ignore this misleading information and keep off it.”
He further stated that, as the National Organising Secretary of DCP, he is charged with organising all party activities and events involving his party leader.
He added that, as far as he is concerned, his party leader is currently in the United Kingdom attending diaspora meetings aimed at popularising the party.
He therefore urged all party supporters to ignore the information, terming it misleading, and to keep off the planned events.
Mithika-Linturi feud
Despite both being members of the United Opposition, the two have not been reading from the same political script in recent times. The feud was clearly visible during the burial of the four people who were killed in Tigania, where Peter Munya, while addressing mourners, attempted to bar Mithika Linturi from speaking by asking him to stand and wave instead.
The former agriculture minister refused, insisting on addressing the gathering. In response, Munya left the funeral midway and signalled his team to walk out of the event.
When Linturi eventually took the podium, he criticised his predecessor in the agriculture docket, terming his actions disrespectful to Kenyans and the electorate, and urged locals not to elect him.
Malala slams Munya

Cleophas Malala, who also attended the funeral, criticised Munya’s conduct, expressing disappointment and saying it was unbecoming for him to walk out of a burial held within his jurisdiction while guests who had travelled from far waited.
He further urged Meru residents to rally behind the DCP national organising secretary.
