COTU officials endorse Raila for presidency
Central Organization of Trade Unions in Kenya (COTU-K) officials on Tuesday endorsed the Azimio-One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga for the August 9 general election.
COTU-K Secretary General Francis Atwoli said Raila has promised to address issues affecting workers should he ascend to power in August.
“Today, @COTU_K held a meeting with the Azimio la Umoja Presidential candidate @RailaOdinga to discuss issues and interests of workers in his government.
“All Executive Board members of @COTU_K and all affiliate General Secretaries endorsed Rtd. Hon. Odinga for the presidency,” Atwoli wrote on Twitter after a meeting with the former Prime Minister.
The officials vowed to campaign for the ODM leader countrywide.
Raila Odinga has already outlined his vision for a modern civil service, noting the need for a proper rewards system for the hardworking.
The Azimio leader said Kenya requires a robust structure for ensuring competitive pay, as well as a welfare system covering basic salary, allowances and welfare expenses for civil servants.
“This should ensure the civil service attracts and retains men and women of quality. We can then subject the civil service to rigorous performance measurements and public perception tests.
“Those who perform will be rest assured of benefits while those who fail will know there are consequences that include no promotion, pay stagnation or release from the service,” Raila said in July last year.
