Cherargei warns Gachagua against incitement, says Ruto’s reelection is unstoppable

Nandi County Senator Samson Cherargei has sharply criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of making insensitive statements that risk inciting Kenyans ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
Speaking on a local TV station, Cherargei expressed concern over Gachagua’s recent remarks, suggesting that they reflect a deeper sense of insecurity about the upcoming electoral contest.
“Rigathi Gachagua and team have sensed defeat, and that’s why they are making inflammatory remarks. President Ruto’s re-election is a sure bet, as sure as a cock-sure,” he said.
“It is clear that he is already sensing defeat in the 2027 elections and is resorting to divisive rhetoric to stir emotions and create unnecessary tension among Kenyans.”
Cherargei’s comments come in the wake of Gachagua’s statements, which have been interpreted by many as attempts to undermine the credibility of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and to question the integrity of the electoral process.
Gachagua’s remarks have sparked widespread debate, with critics accusing him of attempting to delegitimize the electoral body ahead of the next polls.
“We cannot allow such rhetoric to go unchecked,” Cherargei continued. “As leaders, we have a responsibility to uphold the integrity of our institutions and to ensure that the electoral process remains free, fair, and credible. Attempts to undermine this process are not only irresponsible but also detrimental to the democratic fabric of our nation.”
“Though the NCIC came late, Gachagua needs to tell us about the Christmas party. In some countries, such as Rwanda, you will be prosecuted for uttering such words. He is not above the law.”
Ruto’s reelection sealed?
The lawmaker further emphasized the need for unity and calm, urging all political leaders to focus on constructive dialogue like President Ruto and to avoid making statements that could inflame tensions.
“We must rise above petty politics and work together to build a peaceful and prosperous Kenya,” he asserted.
“It’s a sure bet because of his performance. Two and a half years down the line, there’s a lot he has achieved for this country. Just the other day he was launching affordable houses in Mukuru. President Ruto is a winner; he has never lost any election.”
Cherargei’s utterances have been met with mixed reactions. Supporter of Gachagua, led by Senator Joe Nyutu, who was also in the interview, has defended his right to express concerns about the electoral process.
“If NCIC wants to be seen as impartial, they need to summon all those who uttered words to show that the 2027 elections will not be determined by the results but by other matters. They need to summon MP Kamket and Sudi,” he asserted.
“President Ruto’s re-election is banked on ODM’s support, but if I were him, I would not listen to Oburu Odinga but to Sifuna because he (Oburu) is a beneficiary of the broad-based.”
