Cherargei: Sifuna is being fattened for big slaughter politically
Nandi County Senator Samson Cherargei has yet again taken another swipe at Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna after he joined the Odinga family at their Karen residence on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, to mark what would have been Raila Odinga’s 81st birthday.
The Nairobi Senator was warmly hugged and welcomed by Mama Ida Odinga as he joined other leaders at the gathering.
However, Cherargei, in a statement shared via his official X account on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, now claims that Sifuna is being fattened for a big political slaughter, terming the embattled ODM SG as a newbie in politics.
“Sifuna is being fattened for a big slaughter politically in fullness of time. He is a newbie in politics; he will never know what happened when he is politically minced meat,” Cherargei stated.

Sifuna’s political influence
Cherargei went ahead to argue that the media and the United Opposition have been overhyping Sifuna and that the Nairobi Senator will not know once his fall comes.
“The media & dis-united opposition has hyped him further that when he falls it shall thunderous loudly,” Cherargei stated,” Cherargei wrote on X.

Sifuna’s position in the ODM party has recently come under pressure, with him facing calls from some party members to resign or quit ODM over his firm opposition to the Broad-Based Government and President William Ruto’s administration.
Cherargei’s recent remarks come after a video that has since gone viral showed Mama Ida welcoming leaders who had gathered at her compound, including Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o, Makadara MP George Aladwa, and Kasarani MP Donald Krauri.
She greeted each of them with a handshake. However, when Sifuna’s turn came, she pulled him into a warm embrace, a gesture many interpreted as symbolic.
Cherargei’s attacks against Sifuna
Two days ago, Cherargei launched a scathing attack on Sifuna, accusing him of hypocrisy and claiming the party is preparing to strip him of his senior positions.
Taking to his official X account on the night of Sunday, January 4, 2026, Cherargei argued that the Nairobi Senator actively supported, debated, and lobbied for the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in 2024, contrary to his current public posture.
While hinting at a possible disciplinary action against the outspoken senator, Cherargei claimed that ODM is set to remove Sifuna as Secretary-General within the week.
He further claimed that plans are underway in the Senate to strip Sifuna of his position as Deputy Minority Whip, effectively sidelining him from the party’s parliamentary leadership.
“This week, ODM will remove him as the Secretary General; in the Senate, we shall remove him from deputy minority whip, and he will be free to join saboteurs of Broad-based government,” Cherargei stated.
