Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has launched a scathing attack on Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, accusing him of hypocrisy and claiming the party is preparing to strip him of his senior positions.

Taking to his official X account on the night of Sunday, January 4, 2026, Cherargei argued that the Nairobi Senator actively supported, debated, and lobbied for the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in 2024, contrary to his current public posture.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) senator further claimed that records contained in the Senate Hansard prove Sifuna’s involvement, describing him as an “architect of deceit, hypocrisy and deceptive politics.”

“FOR THE RECORD, Sifuna voted YES, Debated & lobbied to impeach Gachagua in 2024 from the Deputy President of Kenya position, this shows a he is an architect of deceit, hypocrisy and deception politics. Here is the evidence of the Senate Hansard,” Cherargei wrote on X.

Sifuna’s ouster

While hinting at a possible disciplinary action against the outspoken senator, Cherargei claimed that ODM is set to remove Sifuna as Secretary-General within the week.

He further claimed that plans are underway in the Senate to strip Sifuna of his position as Deputy Minority Whip, effectively sidelining him from the party’s parliamentary leadership.

“This week, ODM will remove him as the Secretary General, in the Senate, we shall remove him from deputy minority whip, and he will be free to join saboteurs of Broad-based government,” Cherargei stated.

Cherargei’s statement comes at a time when the ODM party is grappling with internal disagreements over its political direction, alliances, and stance toward the government.

Sifuna-ODM standoff

Sifuna has been facing attacks from a section of ODM party members, who have been calling for his ouster for opposing the broad-based government arrangement between the party and the ruling UDA party.

Kasmuel McOure, who positions himself as the ODM party’s vocal youth league member and leader, has come out to spell doom for Sifuna, telling him that his days as the secretary general are numbered.

Taking to his official X account on Sunday, January 4, 2025, the outspoken political activist, who has been on Sifuna’s neck in recent times, told the Nairobi senator that even if he is ousted from the helm of the ODM party, his exit would not be significant and would not be felt, as many of Sifuna’s supporters believe.

“The outgoing Secretary-General of the Orange Democratic Movement, Mr Edwin Sifuna, must be reminded in no uncertain terms that it is he who needs the Orange Democratic Movement and not the other way round, that his exit will not be a big blow as his hype men try to deceive him,” Kasmuel stated.

While referring to him as the outgoing SG of the ODM party, Kasmuel poured cold water on his ascension to the top leadership of the party, stating that he was only handpicked as SG and was not elected, nor did he qualify for the role.

He also took issue with Sifuna’s senatorial mandate, where he is required to offer oversight to the county government, stating that instead of focusing on the plight of Nairobians, such as the recent South C building collapse, Sifuna has focused on non-issues, such as attacking party members and calling them derogatory and insulting names.
