Cherargei hails ODM for Sifuna’s removal as SG
By Faith Lagat, February 11, 2026Nandi Senator Kiprotich Cherargei has congratulated the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) for the immediate removal of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as Secretary General, describing the move as a restoration of “sanity” within the party.
In a strongly worded post on X on Wednesday, February 11, 2026,, the UDA-aligned senator praised ODM’s acting chairperson, Oburu Odinga, for acting decisively against what he termed Sifuna’s repeated undermining of the party and the broad-based government.
“I congratulate the Orange Democratic Party led by Hon. Oburu Odinga for bringing back sanity to the party by IMMEDIATELY removing Senator Edwin Sifuna as the secretary General for undermining, sabotaging the broadbased government and Pre-coalition engagement between ODM & UDA parties of 2027 General Elections,” Cherargei wrote.
“I warned senator Sifuna severally against this habit of undermining the Party; he ate more than he could chew.”
ODM NEC meeting delivers sweeping resolutions
The ouster of Sifuna followed a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Mombasa on February 11, 2026, where the party cited conduct issues as justification for his removal.

In a major strategic shift, ODM resolved to formally initiate its withdrawal from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition, citing sustained breaches of the coalition’s Deed of Agreement by certain partners.
“The NEC reviewed recent developments within the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition. It noted with concern that certain erstwhile coalition partners have acted in violation of the Deed of Agreement that established the Coalition,” the resolutions stated.
The party also mandated its leader, Raila Odinga, to spearhead pre-election coalition negotiations with other political formations, guided by ODM’s ideological foundations and membership aspirations.
Internal reforms
Other resolutions included full adoption of the Central Committee’s January 12 decisions, progress updates on internal reforms and the NADCO Report, advocacy for Ksh. 450 billion allocation to counties in the supplementary budget, and calls for transparent compensation of human rights violation victims through the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR).
ODM further announced a National Delegates Convention scheduled for March 27, 2026, in Nairobi to ratify key decisions and chart the party’s path to the next general election.
Cherargei’s remarks have sparked mixed reactions online, with some users questioning external influence on ODM affairs, while others debated the implications of removing an elected official without an exhaustive disciplinary process.
