Caroli Omondi slams Mbadi and Chirchir over 2 choppers road relaunch fiasco

By , January 24, 2026

Suba South MP Caroli Omondi has publicly criticised two senior government officials for what he calls a empty ceremony to re-launch a stalled road project in Homa Bay County.

Omondi took to social media platform X on Saturday, January 24, 2026, to describe how National Treasury CS John Mbadi and Roads CS Davis Chirchir arrived in separate helicopters in Sindo Town. Their mission was to re-launch construction of the Mbita-Sindo-Sori Road. The MP pointed out that President William Ruto first launched the same project nearly two years ago at Magunga, with Omondi himself present.

According to the MP, the event lacked substance. He claimed the contractor packed up and left with equipment as soon as the officials’ helicopters departed. Omondi claimed that no detailed designs for the critical Sindo section even exist yet, leaving the contractor unprepared to work.

“CS Mbadi and CS Chirchir landed in two choppers in Sindo yesterday to re-launch the construction of the Mbita-Sindo-Sori Road. The contractor left Sindo with the equipment as soon as their choppers lifted,” the MP posted.

“The President @WilliamsRuto launched the construction of the same road at Magunga two years ago in my presence. To make matters worse, no designs for the Sindo section of the road were given to the contractor because they are not ready.”

Pay bills, not speeches

He made a direct appeal to CS Mbadi and CS Chirchir. Instead of another launch, he urged them to prioritise settling three outstanding payment certificates owed to the contractor. Omondi argued that clearing these overdue bills would get construction moving again far more effectively than another ceremony.

“I appeal to the two CSs to focus and instead settle the three unpaid certificates to the Contractor so that the works may be expedited without interruption.”

The MP drew a comparison to a similar event months ago, where he said CS Mbadi and another official also landed in two helicopters to launch two transformers in Sindo. He then extended an invitation for future project launches in his constituency, including for a KMTC college and housing project. His request was simple: that the officials travel by road next time.

“So that they can appreciate the state of the local infrastructure,” he added.

Omondi concluded by calling for a full audit of government projects in the Nyanza region. He wants verification of actual funds disbursed to ensure proper accountability.
