Suba South Member of Parliament (MP) Caroli Omondi has declared that it is now the Luo community’s turn to support Western Kenya politically, marking what he described as a strategic shift following the long political era associated with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Speaking during the fiery Linda Mwananchi rally held in Luanda, Vihiga County on Saturday, April 25, 2026, Omondi suggested that Kenya’s opposition politics is undergoing a deliberate reorganisation aimed at strengthening cross-regional alliances ahead of future political contests.

Omondi framed his comments as part of a broader political gratitude cycle, arguing that Western Kenya played a crucial role in building and sustaining previous opposition formations led by Raila Odinga.

He pointed to past coalition arrangements that brought together communities from Western Kenya, Nyanza, Kamba areas, and Maasai communities, saying the political energy generated from those alliances must now be reciprocated.

New political realignment

The MP, who described himself as closely associated with the final political formation of the Azimio la Umoja movement under Raila, hinted at what he called a “new ground” being prepared for future political mobilisation.

Mnajua mimi ni karibu mkuu wa ile chama ya mwisho ya Raila ya Azimio, na hapo tutafanya mabadiliko,” he said.

He further suggested that this new alignment would play a decisive role in future political transitions, noting that it would be a wave that would remove President William Ruto from power.

Omondi was quick to insist that the evolving political discussions should not be misunderstood as confusion or disorganisation, but rather as a calculated strategy.

Mkituona tunaenda hivi msidhani kuna mchanganyiko, tunatengeneza ground,” Omondi said.

2027 opposition chances

Earlier, Omondi painted an optimistic picture for the opposition ahead of the 2027 general election, forecasting that Azimio la Umoja could consolidate around 16 million votes.

In a pointed interview on April 2, 2026, Omondi highlighted the potential for the coalition to replicate a scenario similar to the 2002 Rainbow Coalition, which ended President Daniel arap Moi’s decades-long dominance of KANU.

“His Excellency, the retired President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta is actually the chairman of Azimio Council,” Omondi noted. “Kalonzo Musyoka, His Excellency, is the party leader.”

He described the deep personal and political ties binding key players, particularly between Kenyatta and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of the Democracy for Citizens (DCP) party.
