Caleb Amisi warns Kang’ata against hijacking Linda Mwananchi movement

By , July 10, 2026

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has cautioned Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata against taking over the Linda Mwananchi movement, saying its founding members remain firmly in charge despite welcoming new entrants.

In a post shared on X on Friday, July 10, 2026, Amisi welcomed Kang’ata into the movement but said its original vision must be protected.

“Bwana Irungu Kangata, as you join Linda Mwananchi, we welcome you. The more the merrier,” Amisi wrote.

“But please note that the founders are still alive and kicking. We shall not allow you and your cabal to misuse our son Edwin Sifuna. We are not children of a lesser God. Keep your Muranga County money. Kenyans shall fund our campaign.”

He concluded the message by stating: “Linda Mwananchi shall never be hijacked under my watch.”

Movement leadership

Amisi, who has previously described himself as one of the founders of Linda Mwananchi, said the movement belongs to Kenyans and should remain faithful to its original objectives.

His remarks come weeks after Kang’ata formally joined the movement during a rally in Thika, Kiambu County.

The Murang’a governor had earlier announced that he would not seek re-election on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, citing political differences with President William Ruto.

While joining Linda Mwananchi, Kang’ata described it as a national movement open to Kenyans from all regions and communities.

The movement, spearheaded by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, has gained momentum through a series of public rallies and grassroots meetings across the country.

Its leaders have consistently presented it as a platform focused on accountability, governance reforms and political change ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Growing debate within the movement

Amisi’s latest statement follows growing public discussion over the direction of the movement and its expanding membership.

On July 3, 2026, Linda Mwananchi leaders, including Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Kang’ata, toured Kisii and Nyamira counties to popularise the movement.

Amisi did not attend the tour, prompting questions about differences within the group.

The Saboti MP has previously expressed concern over efforts to work with leaders from the broader opposition coalition, saying Linda Mwananchi was created to offer Kenyans a different political alternative.

At one point, he spoke of forming a separate political movement before later reaffirming his commitment to Linda Mwananchi, describing it as “my baby.”

However, Sifuna later maintained that Amisi remains part of the movement.

Speaking during a recent radio interview, Sifuna said: “Caleb Amisi hajashuka vuguvugu la Linda Mwananchi; sisi ni wana democrasia.”

Siaya Governor James Orengo has also addressed the discussion, saying differing opinions among leaders should not be interpreted as a split within the movement.

With preparations for the 2027 General Election gathering pace, Linda Mwananchi continues to attract leaders from diverse political backgrounds, while discussions about its leadership and future direction remain in the public spotlight.
