Caleb Amisi warns against replacing Ruto with another emotional choice
By Mustafa Juma, May 16, 2026Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has cautioned Kenyans against what he described as “emotional voting”, warning that the country risks repeating past political mistakes if voters replace President William Ruto with another leader without careful evaluation ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during an interview with a local podcast that aired on the night of Friday, May 15, 2026, Amisi argued that voters must critically assess leadership records rather than making decisions based on sentiment, anger, or short-term political emotions.
Amisi said Kenyans must shift from emotionally driven electoral decisions and instead evaluate leaders based on performance and accountability.
“Right now, we are here saying, can you stop emotional voting? People are still doing the same,” he said.
He added that past voting decisions continue to influence current political dissatisfaction, warning that similar patterns could repeat in 2027 if voters are not careful.
Warning over 2027 elections
The legislator warned against what he termed as replacing one leader with another without proper scrutiny, suggesting that such decisions could lead to future regret.
He said voters who supported Ruto in 2022 and later expressed dissatisfaction should avoid making another rushed decision in 2027.
“The people who voted for William Ruto are just about to vote for Gachagua. Let us stop this emotional voting. Let us evaluate,” Amisi said.

Removing Ruto
Amisi further emphasised that Kenyans have a constitutional opportunity to change leadership through the ballot rather than protests or street action.
“You have a chance to remove William Ruto through the ballot,” he said.
He cautioned against post-election regret, urging voters to make informed choices this time.
“Now, si mmesema hamkujua? Now you know. Wacha tuone tena 2027 mkimrudisha,” he added.
Warning against street protests
The lawmaker also issued a sharp warning against street protests should Kenyans re-elect Ruto or vote through emotions, only for the same grievances they have been crying about to repeat themselves.
He termed the choice to re-elect Ruto in 2027 as foolishness.
“If you go to the streets, ni mimi nitakuwa nakuja kuwatoa huko na viboko because now this will be foolishness,” he said.
He insisted that elections remain the only legitimate avenue for political change.
Amisi’s remarks come amid growing political activity and early mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election, with leaders across the political divide intensifying outreach and shaping narratives around performance and governance.
