Caleb Amisi to United Opposition: You can’t hold 3 rallies then go silent for a week
By Mabonga Makhanu, March 14, 2026Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has slammed the United Opposition’s style of politicking, saying they cannot hold three rallies and then go silent for an entire week.
While speaking during an interview on the Alfa House Podcast aired on Friday, March 13, 2026, the outspoken lawmaker stated that removing William Ruto from power requires sustained energy and consistency, not occasional rallies followed by long breaks.

Amisi criticised the opposition’s approach, arguing that it is ineffective to conduct a few rallies, disappear for days, and then reappear only for press conferences before going silent again. According to him, any serious movement seeking to unseat the current administration must operate continuously, engaging the public daily.
“To remove Ruto, one needs energy. You are supposed to do several rallies in one day. You need to be in Mombasa today; tomorrow you are in Garissa. But if you come, do three rallies and go rest for one week in the US, then you come do one press conference and go back, you can’t remove Ruto like that,” Amisi stated.
On their Linda Mwananchi side, which shares the same ambition as the United Opposition of making President Ruto a one-term president, Amisi said their camp is working day and night to build momentum.
Renaissance movement
He revealed that they are working to establish a movement dubbed the Renaissance Movement, which he said aims to weed out politicians associated with the era of former President Daniel arap Moi. According to Amisi, the country is currently struggling because it has been led for decades by politicians shaped by Moi-era politics.
The MP also warned the United Opposition against ethnic balkanisation, arguing that such politics is pushing young people away from the movement. He said the younger generation wants a country that is free from ethnic divisions.
Linda Mwananchi’s opposition merger
Amisi’s criticism of the United Opposition comes at a time when his Linda Mwananchi team leader, Edwin Sifuna, has also expressed willingness to partner with the opposition in their joint ambition of making President Ruto a one-term leader.
Sifuna stated that for President Ruto to be removed from power, there must be overwhelming rejection from Kenyans and a united front heading into the 2027 general election. He assured Kenyans that he would not be part of any vote-splitting strategy, as has happened in previous elections.
Meanwhile, James Orengo, another key member of the team, appeared to support the idea of cooperation but said it is still premature for Linda Mwananchi to begin formal partnership talks with the United Opposition.
Orengo emphasised that the movement should first focus on building a strong national footprint and popularising itself across the country.
Orengo defends Gachagua

He also defended some figures within the opposition, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who had earlier insisted that the late ODM party leader would never enter into a political handshake with President Ruto and that he is laying traps for Raila to be caught should he try to approach State House.
According to Orengo, such statements should not prevent Linda Mwananchi from working with the opposition, where Gachagua is considered an integral member. He argued that if there is anyone the movement should avoid working with, it should be Ruto, noting that the president previously made strong remarks against their late party leader.
Orengo further warned against what he described as double standards in politics, where some leaders appear willing to work with Ruto while being overly critical of figures like Gachagua.
