Caleb Amisi recalls warning Sifuna against overseeing Oburu’s swearing in as ODM party leader
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, February 11, 2026Saboti Constituency Member of Parliament has said that he warned the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna against initiating the swearing-in of Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga as the party leader.
In an interview with a local radio station on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, Amisi said that he cautioned Sifuna against such a move, telling him that the decision he was making at the time would later bounce back on him.
“We hear they want to remove Edwin Sifuna as SG, and I warned him before. He shouldn’t have sworn in Oburu Odinga as the ODM party leader,” Amisi stated.

The sentiments from the legislator have come at a time when the ODM Party National Executive Committee (NEC) is expected to convene in Mombasa.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, announced a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting to be held in Mombasa on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, to discuss the party’s political direction amid deepening internal divisions.
According to the statement, the ODM brigade will pitch camp in the coastal region in the next six days, where they will engage in a series of activities aimed at strengthening the party under the banner of Linda Ground.

Sifuna leading a parallel faction.
The embattled Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna has been leading a faction dubbed the Linda Mwananchi.
On Sunday, February 8, 2026, Sifuna led a brigade of the Linda Mwananchi Forum in Busia, which attracted a huge crowd, a move that was not welcomed by the Linda ground faction led.
Sifuna, who has been one of ODM’s most vocal and visible figures, has previously taken public positions that have been seen to diverge from the party’s official line, particularly on working with President William Ruto’s administration. This has sparked differences within the party, leading to the ouster.
ODM party politics is expected to take a new direction depending on the decision that will be made at the NEC meeting. The deliberations may either resolve or deepen the wrangles within the party.
