Caleb Amisi intensifies push to impeach Ruto
By Mustafa Juma, May 31, 2026Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has escalated calls for the impeachment of President William Ruto, declaring that the process is a constitutional and democratic right that should proceed alongside ongoing opposition to the Finance Bill 2026.
In a statement shared via his official X account on Sunday, May 31, 2026, Amisi accused unnamed individuals of attempting to portray the impeachment campaign as a distraction from the controversial Finance Bill debate.
He dismissed claims that pushing for impeachment at the same time as opposition to the Finance Bill was politically misplaced, insisting that both processes can happen simultaneously.
“There is concerted efforts from enemies of progress to paint impeachment as destruction from finance bill,” he stated.
“They can happen both at the same time.”
The legislator described impeachment as a constitutional safeguard meant to address what he termed excessive misuse of power.
“Impeachment is a constitutional safeguard against excessive misuse of power, and it is part of the democratic process,” he stated.

Amisi further intensified his rhetoric by saying Kenyans demanding accountability from leaders should not be accused of destabilising the country.
“You asked for democracy, you will be served democracy hot and burning,” he declared.
The MP also challenged reports suggesting that the impeachment motion lacked parliamentary support, dismissing claims that President Ruto’s allies have enough numbers to defeat any attempt to remove him from office.
“Another allegation: Mara Kasongo has numbers; he will win in parliament and come out boldly. That is balderdash,” he stated.

MPs urged to do the necessary
Amisi urged Kenyans to pressure their MPs to support the impeachment effort, framing the coming political battles as a defining moment for the country.
“Turn to your MP and plead with them to do the necessary,” he said.
He added that lawmakers would soon have to publicly choose sides.
“Hakuna katikati. You are either with Kenyans or shut up,” he stated.
The outspoken MP further claimed that the era of “deceiving people through rallies” was over, saying Kenyans were now demanding action and accountability.
“Kudanganya watu kwa rallies imeisha,” he said.
Rising political temperatures
Amisi’s remarks come amid growing political tensions over the Finance Bill 2026 and increasing criticism of the Kenya Kwanza administration from sections of the opposition.
A section of opposition leaders has been mobilising public resistance against the Finance Bill, as Amisi pushes for Ruto’s impeachment.
The lawmaker ignited the plot by asking Kenyans to like his post shared on X, saying that he would kick off the process once his post garners 24,000 likes. The post has since surpassed the said numbers.
According to him, the massive likes on his post asking Kenyans for a go-ahead to impeach Ruto will act as a public participation process.
The impeachment push, however, faces a steep political challenge in Parliament, where the president’s allies still command significant numbers in both the National Assembly and Senate.
