Busia governor: Gachagua would reconcile with Ruto if Raila abandons the president

By , August 30, 2025

Busia Governor Paul Otuoma has sensationally claimed that former DP Rigathi Gachagua would cross ship and reunite with President William Ruto if his broad-based partner Raila Odinga were to ditch the president.

Speaking during the burial of Ababu Namwamba’s mother, Mama Agatha Namwamba, in Budalang’i on Saturday, August 30, 2025, Otuoma said that the outspoken DP would not hesitate to return back to the government if the chance arises.

Going back

“I can tell you for free if right now Raila was not with Ruto, you would see Wamunyoro going back there,” he stated.

Otuoma also expressed dismay at the rate at which politicians degrade each other after shifting camps or adopting a different political ideology.

“Even my brother here, (Fred) Matiang’i, worked with Ruto as interior minister when Ruto was the DP. It was only at the end when politics changed and they adopted different ideologies. Even Gachagua worked with Ruto. But the problem in this country is we create problems for wananchi by speaking ill as if we do not have a country at all,” he stated.

His sentiments come after Gachagua recently posited that his alliance with Ruto was fundamentally flawed from the very beginning.

In his recent remarks during his diaspora engagement in Seattle, Washington State, on Friday, July 11, 2025, Gachagua painted a picture of betrayal, deception, and inevitable fallout between two leaders with irreconcilable values.

Gachagua on relationship with Ruto

Gachagua, who was impeached in October 2024, accused Ruto of seeking a submissive deputy—a “yes “man”—rather than a principled partner.

“The Rigathi Gachagua that William Ruto got is not what he wanted. He had a totally different idea of the deputy he wanted. He wanted a Mr. Yes Sir, a guy who will say ‘yes, sir’ to everything,” Gachagua said.

The DCP leader went ahead to liken their relationship to that of water and oil.

“He was quite happy for me to mobilise the votes, but he had a big problem with somebody who is truthful, and I knew my marriage with Ruto would not last long, past one year, because we are different. The guy is a pathological liar, and I am a truthful man. The two of us are like oil and water. We could not stay together; I am even surprised it went on for two years. This is a guy who will look at you straight and lie without even blinking. I couldn’t take it because I was not brought up that way,” Gachagua said.
