Boniface Mwangi elected Ukweli Party leader in Nairobi NDC
By Mustafa Juma, June 13, 2026Activist-turned-politician Boniface Mwangi has been elected as the new party leader of the Ukweli Party following a National Delegates Conference (NDC) held in Nairobi, bringing together delegates from across the country.
Mwangi announced his election in a statement shared via his official social media accounts on Saturday, June 13, 2026, saying party members had travelled from different regions to participate in the democratic process that confirmed his new leadership role.
The NDC marks a significant milestone for the party as it seeks to strengthen its national structures and position itself as a new political force ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Yesterday, I was elected as the party leader of @UkweliParty by our party members, who travelled from all over Kenya to take part in our National Delegates Conference in Nairobi,” Mwangi stated.
In his acceptance remarks, Mwangi said his elevation to party leader was not a personal win but a collective decision by members who believe in political transformation and accountability in governance.
He emphasised that the party’s mission goes beyond individual leadership, describing it as a platform aimed at reshaping Kenya’s political culture.
“This victory is not about one individual. It is about all of us who believe Kenya deserves better,” he stated.

Building a new political movement
Mwangi, who has since declared his interest in the 2027 presidential contest, outlined an ambitious agenda focused on strengthening party structures, promoting inclusive leadership, and restoring public trust in political institutions.
He said the Ukweli Party would prioritise listening to citizens, inclusivity, and service-delivery-oriented politics, regardless of regional, religious, or political differences.
“We now have the opportunity to build a party that listens, that includes, and that works for every Kenyan — regardless of where they come from, what they believe, or who they voted for in the past,” he added.
Focus on party structures and national reach
The newly elected leader said the party will now embark on building strong grassroots structures across the country and nurturing what he described as principled leadership.
Mwangi called on party members to remain committed to the vision of transforming politics into a tool for public service rather than personal gain.
“The work begins now. We must build strong structures, nurture principled leadership, and restore faith in politics as a force for public service,” he said.

Mwangi’s election comes at a time when Kenya’s political landscape is witnessing the emergence of new formations and alliances ahead of the next election cycle.
The Ukweli Party leadership change is expected to inject fresh energy into the party as it seeks to expand its influence nationally.
Financial support
In November 2025, Mwangi commenced nationwide tours to popularise his 2027 presidential bid while appealing for financial support to fund his campaign for the next general election.
Taking to X on Sunday, November 9, 2025, Mwangi urged the electorate to consider him at the ballot, stating that he is not a ‘career politician’ but a common Kenyan citizen seeking to serve the nation in the highest office of the land.
”I have always believed that it is our collective responsibility to leave society better than we found it, hence dedicating my life to working with other like-minded people who try to improve our condition for the common good,” Mwangi said.
The youthful activist also revealed that his family was against his interest in leading the country come 2027.
