The National Unity Platform (NUP) leader and Uganda’s opposition leader, Bobi Wine, has called on his supporters to remain vigilant and ensure that election procedures are observed at every polling station.

In a statement shared on X on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, a day before Uganda’s general election, Bobi Wine urged voters and polling agents to stay alert and record any suspicious or unlawful activity during the voting process.

“In just one day, we shall be going to the polls. While we’re doing everything possible to ensure that we have polling agents at every polling station, we know that the regime will try to stop some and arrest others.

“The first step is for all of us to stay at the polling stations (while observing the 20-metre distance) and ensure that nothing criminal happens. We implore everyone to use their cameras and record anything irregular. In addition to posting it online, we shall provide WhatsApp contacts through which that evidence may be sent,” Bobi Wine wrote.

He also outlined measures to secure election results in case agents are prevented from carrying out their duties or detained.

“The second step is to ensure that in case our agents are arrested or blocked, we get the DR Forms, take their pictures, and upload them through this app! The law requires every presiding officer to pin a copy of the DR form in a visible place at a polling station. Let’s all ensure that happens, take the pictures, and upload them. Even if the internet is switched off, upload the DR form, and it will reflect as soon as the internet is restored. Lets all get involved,” Bobi Wine stated.

Tension ahead of polls

Bobi Wine’s instructions come amid heightened tensions in the lead-up to Uganda’s general elections, with concerns about the arrest of opposition agents and the integrity of election monitoring.

Bobi Wine emphasised that citizen participation in documenting election processes is crucial to ensure transparency and to protect the integrity of the vote.

Bobi Wine had earlier stated that Uganda’s election environment has been fraught with intimidation and restricted political activity, making vigilance at polling stations an essential step in safeguarding the democratic process.
