Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has opened up on the details of his phone conversation with Uganda’s opposition candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine.

Speaking on the night of Wednesday, January 14, 2026, during an interview with one of the local TV stations, Owino revealed that he had spoken with his friend Bobi three days ago to encourage him as Uganda heads to the ballot on Thursday, January 15, 2026.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker noted that his friend is being frustrated by the Yoweri Museveni regime in the neighbouring country.

He pointed out how Bobi Wine has been forced to campaign while putting on bulletproof vests to protect himself from the bullets fired by the Ugandan police.

“I spoke to Bobi Wine three days ago. We talked, and Bobi is being frustrated in Uganda. I don’t think that is a campaign season because you find a potential presidential aspirant campaigning, putting on bulletproofs everywhere, and the police trying to prevent him from going to the campaigns, and that is already breaking the electoral laws,” Babu Owino said.

Bobi Wine’s winning chances

Owino went ahead to note that he had reminded Bobi that power is like a beautiful young lady who gets attracted to young and bold men, and not the old, whom he termed as cold.

The lawmaker further expressed confidence in Bobi, saying that he was going to win the presidency in Uganda’s January 15, 2026, general elections.

“I want to tell you that Bobi is on the right path. I spoke with him and told him that this election, given that Museveni has shut down the internet in Uganda, clearly reveals what is happening. But I want to tell you one thing that I told Bobi. I told Bobi that power is like a beautiful lady; she loves to associate with the young who are bold, not the old who are cold. Bobi still has a future, and in this presidential election, I am confident he is going to win,” he said.

Uganda elections

Ugandans will be heading to the ballot on Thursday, January 15, amid the internet shutdown.

Approximately 21.6 million registered voters will decide whether to extend President Yoweri Museveni’s 40-year rule or elect a new leader.

On Tuesday evening, January 13, the government ordered a nationwide internet blackout, including social media and messaging services.

Officials cited the prevention of “misinformation” and “electoral fraud”, while rights groups condemned the move as a blow to transparency.
