Babu Owino has addressed claims regarding why the Linda Mwanachi team, led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, is dominated by men with little or no female representation.

While speaking during an interview with a local radio station on Sunday, February 22, 2026, the outspoken lawmaker stated that, at this point, they do not want to expose women to hostility, such as being teargassed, as was recently witnessed in their rallies.

He added that when the right time comes, that is when they will bring women to be part of the meetings. Currently, they are only bringing one or two women to “test the waters” and see if they can manage the chaos that comes with political rallies.

He insisted that their current focus is to protect their sisters from the hazards of political rallies, especially at a time when their gatherings are being targeted. He emphasised that what they are doing now is clearing the way for women, who will eventually join fully.

He also noted that the absence of women in the Linda Mwanachi team does not mean they do not support them. He stated that women are supported in their activities and are present at rallies to be heard.

“Why would we, at this early stage, risk the lives of our mothers and our sisters by taking them to be teargassed or stoned? It would be insensitive,” he said.

Women leaders join Linda Mwanachi

He added that the former nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has also joined the movement. According to him, Omanga is among the women leaders who have carefully read the ground and believe in the team, and she will be joining in the next rallies.

This comes just days after Jubilee Deputy Organising Secretary and Nairobi gubernatorial hopeful Pauline Njoroge became the first woman to join the movement during the Kitengela chapter.

She was seen sharing light moments with Babu Owino, despite both having similar ambitions for Nairobi County. This followed her earlier show of support for the team on social media.

Pauline went ahead to state that.

Watu wakiongea wanafurushwa kwa chama, hatutanyamaza maovu yakitendeka. This fight is on, and we know that God is also on our side because we are following the example of Jesus Christ in fighting for the people,” Pauline stated.

What’s next for Linda Mwanchi?

Edwin Sifuna announced that the Linda Mwanachi team will be taking a brief hiatus, saying that their Muslim supporters have urged them to pause activities and wait until the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

He added that they will resume their movement activities afterwards, with the maiden rally following the break set to take place in Mombasa before proceeding to other regions.
