Avoid six-piece voting style, urges Gumbo

Siaya governor aspirant Nicholas Gumbo has cautioned voters against embracing the six-piece voting system, saying it would usher in unpopular leaders.

Gumbo, while speaking at Ahindi Gardens in Siaya town, said undeserving leaders have in the past been elected to office because of the six-piece system.

“Those who rode on this wave in past elections have performed dismally on service delivery. That is why I am urging you to avoid this voting system,” said Gumbo.

He said most counties, especially in Nyanza, are lagging behind in development. Gumbo has teamed up with former Police spokesperson Charles Wahongo, who dropped his bid for governor to become the running mate.

Gumbo said the six-piece voting system had locked out many development conscious leaders. He urged voters to elect people who can prudently manage resources.

He challenged his competitor, Senator James Orengo, to showcase his development record during his many years in politics. Duel with Orengo

“Orengo is my senior politically but has nothing tangible to offer Siaya residents. He has been in power for decades yet we cannot identify any project he is associated with,” said Gumbo.

Gumbo made stop-overs at Boro, Sega and Yala townships. He said he would not hang on anybody’s coat-tails.
