By , February 17, 2026

Kitutu Chache South Member of Parliament Anthony Kibagendi has condemned the government’s failure to protect its citizens. Kibagendi has said that the government has instead been using the police to harass leaders and members of the public.

Speaking in an interview at a local TV station on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, he slammed the Inspector General for avoiding a meeting with the United Opposition, warning that this would turn the country into a gang-ridden nation.

“If IG Kanja continues with his snobbish character, we will see this country deteriorate into a gang nation. If the government does not protect us, then we will protect ourselves,” Kibagendi said.

Kibagendi highlights incidents of police harassment

Kibagendi has said that the national police service has been cooperating with the criminal gangs to harass anyone opposed to the government. Kibagendi has stated that the people shall organise themselves to protect themselves against police attacks if the government does not heed the call to stop the intimidation.

Expressing his sentiments, the outspoken lawmaker has referred to incidents in which the police have disrupted political gatherings. Kibagendi has called out the police for the attack by police on members of the public who had attended a public rally organised by a fleet of leaders led by Nairobi senator on Sunday, February 15, 2026,15,2026 in Kitengela where police lobbed teargas to disrupt the gathering, with fatalities and scores of injuries reported.

Kipagendi, who is a critic of the current regime, has also condemned the attack in church at Witima in Othaya that happened on Sunday, January,25,2026 in which former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s function at a church was disrupted by police lobbing teargas into the church to disrupt the event.

The legislator has sadly noted that despite these attacks by police being known to the public, no investigation into the individuals responsible has been conducted. He has termed this as an indication that the government is not ready to protect the citizens, warning that should the trend continue, the public will mobilise to protect themselves.
