Amisi says Mohamed Ali set to join Sifuna-led Linda Mwananchi faction
By Mabonga Makhanu, February 28, 2026Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has revealed that his Nyali counterpart, Mohamed Ali, is set to join Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi team.
Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Friday, February 28, 2026, Amisi stated that the Mombasa 2027 gubernatorial hopeful would soon become part of the faction largely comprised of rebels drawn from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Which has been holding rallies across different parts of the country following Sifuna’s ouster from the party’s secretary general position.
“Mohamed Ali will soon join us; he is part of this team.”
Amisi further noted that the Linda Mwananchi team is steadily gaining a national face, contrary to claims that it is dominated by leaders from Western Kenya alone.

He also took a swipe at Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, who was part of the movement during its formative stages when it operated under the name “Kenya Moja Parliamentary Caucus”, a group that opposed the current regime.
However, he claimed that she later shifted her allegiance to the government without informing her former allies. Amisi continued to express his disappointments with Wamuchomba, but stated that the team has since moved on and allowed her to chart her own political path.
This development comes at a time when the Linda Mwananchi faction, which includes Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Bomachoge MP Obadiah Barongo, Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gesairo, and Siaya Governor James Orengo, among others, has temporarily paused its political activities until the holy month of Ramadan concludes.
According to Sifuna, who is the team leader, the group has taken a break to restrategise and develop a one-year roadmap aimed at popularising their movement nationwide.
Once the hiatus ends, they plan to resume with a major rally in Mombasa before moving to other regions, including Siaya and Kisumu counties.
During this break, the team, according to Sifuna, will also mobilise resources from Kenyans of goodwill who want to sponsor and be part of the movement so that they can move forward with their political engagements.

The faction rose to prominence after Sifuna was removed as ODM secretary general and replaced by his deputy, Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo.
However, Sifuna later secured a reprieve from the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal, which reinstated him pending the full hearing of the case scheduled for March 12, 2026.
The Linda Mwananchi group comprises ODM leaders opposed to the Oburu-led “Linda Ground” faction, which supports ODM entering into pre-coalition talks with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to back President William Ruto in the 2027 election.
The wrangles have since deepened divisions within the ODM, with members now firmly aligning themselves either with the Oburu-led camp or the Sifuna-led faction.
Jicho Pevu’s Mombasa bid

This also comes at a time when Mohamed Ali, who is eyeing to unseat incumbent Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, was recently floated by the United Opposition as their candidate for the Mombasa gubernatorial race in 2027. He has also come out to be in solidarity with the Linda Mwanchi team during past social media posts
