Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has poured cold water on President William Ruto’s tour of the Nyanza region, claiming the head of state is unknowingly campaigning for a future in the opposition.

In a post shared via his X account on Thursday, May 29, 2025, Amisi dismissed the large crowds that turned up to welcome Ruto in Kisumu and Homa Bay, saying they are not a sign of political support but part of a strategy to humiliate him.

“A fool thinks himself to be wise, but a wise man thinks himself to be a fool. I love the people of Nyanza. They are doing the Lord’s work. Deception is the best tool for winning a war. @WilliamsRuto, you are now addressing votes that will make you an indisputable opposition leader. Don’t worry, ‘opposition’ knocks once at every man’s door. It is now your lucky turn,” he noted.

He went on to declare that Ruto is destined to be a one-term president.

“I am now more convinced than before that Ruto is #Wantam, and Baba must be smiling loudly at this fool standing next to him,” Amisi added, referring to ODM leader Raila Odinga, who accompanied him on his tour.

Earlier, President Ruto brushed off criticism, instead turning his guns on the opposition. Speaking during the launch of the LV Point Affordable Housing precinct at the LV Marina, he accused his rivals of lacking a vision for Kenya.

“These are people who have no vision, no plan, and no agenda. We will show them dust; they won’t believe,” he said.

Ruto also took a jab at the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), which is associated with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. He said the party was built on empty slogans.

“All they know is slogans: ‘Ruto must go,’ ‘Kasongo,’ ‘Wantam…’ And I want to tell you we are going to move this country forward,” he told the cheering crowd.

Support or ridicule?

In Homa Bay, the president was welcomed by thousands of residents, a gesture seen as a shift in the region’s political mood. The area has traditionally supported the opposition, but recent engagements between Ruto and Raila Odinga have softened the ground for the head of state.

Residents chanted “Kumi bila break!” urging Ruto to seek re-election in 2027. He responded with a smile, “Are you saying it will be ten years without a break?” The crowd responded with loud cheers and applause.

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga praised Ruto’s visit and development record, saying no other president has done as much for the county.

“We have never seen any president do what President Ruto has done for us. When President Kibaki was in power for 10 years, he only visited once. President Uhuru Kenyatta never toured Homa Bay County; we never saw him,” she said.

Adding;

“But for the years he has been in office, President Ruto is coming to Homa Bay for the ninth time now.”

The President’s visit to Nyanza includes the inspection and commissioning of several key development projects and is seen as one of his most significant tours to the region since taking office.
