Amisi advises Ruto on what he must do to win conditional Luo Nyanza support
Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has issued a direct political message to President William Ruto, telling him what he should do to earn the conditional support of the Nyanza region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Taking to his official X account on Sunday, May 3, 2026, Amisi argued that gaining meaningful support in Luo Nyanza will depend on whether Ruto addresses long-standing issues that informed former opposition leader Raila Odinga’s political agenda in the region.
Amisi further urged the Head of State not to rely on political narratives or shifting alliances but instead to focus on substantive concerns affecting residents of the region.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker allied to the Linda Mwananchi faction also cautioned against what he described as misleading political assumptions about the region’s voting behaviour and loyalty.
He referenced the Saturday, May 2, 2026, incident at a funeral in Seme, where Siaya Governor James Orengo faced rejection from a group of individuals who stormed the event while in the company of some political leaders from the region.
“Chasing Orengo from funerals will not change the resolve of Nyanza people. I was in Kisumu rally on 26th April. I slept in Kisumu and mingled with locals. I saw a people determined to oppose Ruto with or without Babu or Orengo. Even if Babu Owino or Orengo joins Ruto tomorrow, the rally will even be bigger,” Amisi stated.
“Do not be lied to Bwana Ruto. Address what Raila Odinga was fighting for in order to get the support of the Nyanza region.”

In his remarks, Amisi referenced Raila Odinga’s long-standing influence in Luo Nyanza politics, noting that his political message was rooted in issues such as economic inclusion, governance reform, and equitable development.
He implied that any attempt to shift political loyalty in the region must engage with those underlying concerns rather than focus on political persuasion alone.
Strong defence of Nyanza political identity
Amisi also stressed that political dynamics in the region remain deeply rooted and cannot be altered through short-term strategies or individual political alignments.
He maintained that the region’s political consciousness has historically been shaped by collective struggle and ideological commitments rather than personalities.
“Luo nation has never missed in any revolution in this country. They will lead the economic renaissance revolution! Kenya needs a renaissance!” Amisi wrote on X.

Orengo’s hostile treatment in Seme
His remarks come hours after he praised Orengo for maturely enduring heckling and clashes at a funeral in Seme sub-county.
In a post on his official X account on Saturday, May 2, 2026, the legislature expressed the importance of Kenya having a political renaissance following the political drama witnessed at the funeral service.
“James Orengo behaved maturely today, in the midst of vultures baying for his carcass. Hasira za watu wa tutam ni mingi sana. Kuna ndimu huko kwa broadbased? Machozi kila mahali. Any, Kenya needs a renaissance,” Amisi said.

The chaos erupted on Saturday, May 2, 2026, during the burial ceremony of the Seme Member of Parliament, Dr James Nyikal’s father, the late Mzee Eliud Nyikal Okaka.
The funeral ceremony was attended by Nyanza region leaders, including Kisumu Governor Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o, Kisumu Women Representative Ruth Odinga, and Homabay Governor Gladys Wanga.
Shortly after the chaos witnessed in Seme, Orengo issued a stern warning to individuals he accused of plotting violence against Linda Mwananchi, declaring that efforts to intimidate the movement’s activities would not succeed.
In a post on his official X account on Saturday, May 2, 2026, Orengo condemned a group of rowdy individuals who stormed the burial service while chanting political slogans.
