Alai: Sifuna giving ODM enemies cue to campaign against party
By Luke Oluoch, November 2, 2025Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai has expressed concerns about recent utterances by the Orange Democratic Movement Secretary General Edwin Sifuna about the upcoming by-elections.
In a statement on his X page on Saturday, November 1, 2025, Alai shared how the SG’s remarks about the upcoming by-election and warnings about bringing two-term issues in the Orange Democratic Movement could backfire against the party.
According to Alai, the assertion that ODM candidates and any others should not use the two-term chants in the party’s campaigns could set the stage for decampaigning ODM candidates.

“Sifuna was giving the enemies of ODM a cue to campaign against the party. These are opponents of ODM in Magarini using the statements of Sifuna to attack ODM candidates in Magarini. This is the DCP Magarini candidate (Karisa Kenga) using the words of Sifuna to strengthen their campaign words in Magarini,” he said.
His remarks come after Sifuna cautioned politicians against the use of pro-Ruto chants while campaigning for ODM candidates for the upcoming by-elections.
The SG maintained that ODM resorted to maintaining its unity with the direction the party would take in the 2027 polls, yet to be decided.
Not presidential elections
“The coming by-election is for the Members of the County Assemblies and MPs. There is no presidential election, so I want to tell the people campaigning for our candidates not to bring up two-term chants in our campaigns,” he added.
He equally dismissed the existence of the pre-election collaboration between the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and his Orange party to present a united front in the upcoming mini-polls.
Broad-based is not party
“The pact we made with UDA did not constitute a coalition agreement. I hear people going around saying there are broad-based candidates in the by-elections. Broad-based is not a party, and therefore, it has no candidates,” he said.
The senator asserted that ODM will enter the polls as a single entity with its symbol and candidates.
Sifuna linked the chants to taking a premature stance on the party’s stance on the coming 2027 polls, warning that the decision rests on the top leadership.
