Alai accuses Kalonzo of sabotaging Raila’s 2007 presidential bid

Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai has impugned Kalonzo Musyoka’s long-held assertion as a loyal sidekick of the late Raila Odinga.

In a statement on his X page on Thursday, November 6, 2025, Alai accused the Wiper leader of achieving nothing significant in terms of supporting Raila Odinga during his political times despite Kalonzo being Raila’s running mate for three election cycles.

The MCA particularly referenced Kalonzo’s move to accept the vice presidency position after the contested 2007 election as tantamount to sabotaging Raila’s quest for the presidency.

Sabotage

“You sabotaged Raila’s presidency in 2007. You didn’t do anything unique or revolutionary to support Raila. Wacha ukora,” Alai opined.

In his scathing remarks, Alai also castigated Siaya Governor James Orengo, who endorsed Kalonzo’s bid for the presidency.

He questioned why the governor could talk big on the topic of preserving democratic process within political parties, yet he was stifling the same in his backyard in Siaya.

“Orengo had fools cheer him because they don’t know that Orengo is the most incompetent and corrupt governor Siaya has ever had. Even his deputy doesn’t have the freedoms he so preaches to us. Only complete fools believe Orengo,” he posited.

Alai’s remarks stemmed from Kalonzo’s touching tribute to the late Raila on Thursday, November 6, during his visit to Raila’s resting place at Opoda farm.

Kalonzo said the late opposition leader inspired a new generation of young Kenyans who will carry on his vision for justice and democracy.

Tribute to Raila

He maintained that Raila’s influence will continue to grow even after his death.

“May the champion of democracy, may the champion of devolution, rest in peace,” he said. “The enigma said, ‘Bury me quickly,’ and we didn’t have time. So don’t be surprised that the whole nation will keep on coming here.”

He added that Raila’s influence extended beyond politics, describing him as a man whose ideas inspired unity and courage among Kenyans. Kalonzo said Raila’s death would not silence his message but instead strengthen the determination of those who believed in his cause.
