ACK Bungoma Diocese endorses Tim Wanyonyi for Bungoma governor
By Luke Oluoch, September 17, 2025The Bungoma diocese of the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) has endorsed Tim Wanyonyi as its candidate for the 2027 Bungoma gubernatorial seat.
Speaking on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, the clergy led by George Mechumo, Bishop of the ACK Diocese of Bungoma, stated that the decision had been reached after wide consultation and solemn prayer.
Candidate
“We, the bishop and clergy of the ACK Diocese of Bungoma, have reflected and studied the word of God and prayed over the state of Bungoma County in general.
“As the current governor, Ken Lusaka, prepares to exit the scene after the 2027 elections, we want to thank the people of Bungoma for their keenness and resolve to identify Wanyonyi as their candidate and next governor of Bungoma,” he stated.
The clergy has officially welcomed Wanyonyi’s candidacy, lauding his zero tolerance for corruption and service delivery.
“As the ACK bishops, we take the opportunity to welcome him to the Bungoma gubernatorial race in 2027. We ask to be assured of our full support before and after the elections.
“You are coming to this race as the choice of people of this great county because of your excellent performance in service delivery and zero tolerance for corruption while serving as the MP for Westlands,” Muchume stated.

The endorsement from the ACK clergy comes a couple of months after elected Members of Parliament (MPs) from the county similarly endorsed the Westlands MP for the position.
Addressing the media in the local dialect on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, Sirisia MP John Waluke, who serves as the leader of the Western MPs caucus, said that all nine elected MPs from Bungoma, apart from Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, had met and agreed to throw their weight behind Wanyonyi.
Waluke clarified that Barasa had skipped the meeting because he also has an interest in the Bungoma gubernatorial seat, but the remaining eight MPs had decided to involve all the elected and nominated Members of County Assembly (MCAs) in the plot to have Wanyonyi succeed Governor Kenneth Lusaka.
“As Bungoma people, we, the Members of Parliament who were elected from the county, have met to decide on the development of Bungoma County. All nine of us, except Didmus Wekesa Barasa, who has an interest in the Bungoma gubernatorial seat, have decided that Bungoma will not fall as we watch.
“We have decided that we will call all the MCAs on Thursday next week and meet them at the home of Tim Wanyonyi. All the 45 elected MCAs and all the nominated ones will meet to decide on the future of Bungoma. Bungoma will not get destroyed as the MCAs and elected MPs watch,” Waluke said.
