920 individuals seek to fill seven IEBC posts

By , March 29, 2023

About 920 individuals have applied to sit as chairpersons and commissioners in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission—a total of seven positions.

Of them, 25 have applied for the position of chairperson and 895 as commissioners.

The selection panel chairperson Nelson Makanda said they would reveal the names of those who have applied for the said position in 10 days.

He said: “We have got 920 applications, the highest in the history of IEBC Commission. It is possible that we may have double numbers, maybe two or three because some may have applied online and manually but we will look into this,” he said.

He added: “In another one week, we will be able to publish names of those shortlisted. Maybe around April 8 or 9.”

Accompanied by other members of the panel, Makanda said they will be writing to different investigative bodies as well as seek memoranda from Kenyans on the suitability of the candidates.

Should they find that the candidates are not suitable for the said positions, he said as a panel they will issue a fresh advert so individuals interested in the said position can apply.

“I want to assure the country that we will be giving the identities of these candidates soon and I promise that we shall give the country the best,” he said.
